RECONCILIATION
Interpretation (3)
Bemerkungen zu „word over all“
- Anklang an Joh 1
Notizen:
While writing about the word “reconciliation,” above all others in terms of importance, Whitman references the passage from John1:1: In the beginning was the Word
Perhaps Whitman is suggesting that the destruction of the Civil War, because it must lead to reconciliation, holds the possibility for a great rebirth a la the birth of the cosmos. This cosmic reading gains strength from Whitman’s numerous references to the sky (Lawrence of Tazmania)
